“I came up with Talking Jobs as a touchstone for young people to explore ahead of making important life decisions. At core it's about helping young people make easy comparisons between life stories while taking them beyond familiar role models. I also wanted to celebrate the everyday heroes that surround us - competent people happy in their work, but not always shouting about it, and through which young people could be encouraged to form their own models of success. I see it as a tool within the guidance process or as classroom piece in work related learning. While it can be used in isolation as an LMI research tool, it is more about making sure conversations with guidance professionals, teachers and careers people have an informed starting point.”
